Police funding: Tell me what you think
As we launch our consultation for the 2026/2027 police precept, I want to highlight the importance of hearing from as many people as possible across the Dyfed-Powys area.
The police precept is the portion of council tax that contributes directly to local policing, and your feedback plays a vital role in helping shape the decisions we make for the year ahead.
You may be aware of recent announcements from the UK Government regarding the future governance of policing, including proposals to abolish the role of Police and Crime Commissioners in England and Wales. As outlined in the joint statement from the Police and Crime Commissioners for Wales, our statutory responsibilities remain unchanged during this transition period. My focus continues to be on ensuring effective oversight, supporting victims and representing the proprieties of our communities.
I encourage you to take part in this year’s precept survey and to share within your networks. Your views will help inform the decisions taken for 2026/2027 and ensure they reflect the needs and expectations of the communities we serve.
Further information about the consultation can be found below.
Despite careful financial planning, we are faced with tough decisions. My priority remains ensuring that we maintain an efficient and effective police service to keep our communities safe.
This is a challenging process, but hearing your views is essential. I strongly encourage you to take part in the consultation and share your thoughts.
The survey will remain open until 5 January 2026, and can be accessed here.
Other formats of the survey are available on request from my office by emailing OPCC@dyfed-powys.police.uk or calling 01267 226440.
